Essay Contest Supporting the Convention on the Rights of the Child
The Campaign for U.S. Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child invites youth throughout the U.S. to participate in its second nationwide essay contest. The purpose of this contest is to continue to raise awareness of the CRC among youth and to engage them in thoughtful reflection on the potential impacts the Convention would have on children and youth in the U.S.
The CRC Essay Contest is open to U.S. students in grades 6th-12th and homeschooled students in the equivalent grade levels. Applicants must currently reside in the U.S. (additional information is contained in the Instruction Kit; see below).
The top five winning essayists will receive airfare and accommodations for himself/herself and one parent/legal guardian to participate in the Campaign for U.S. Ratification of the CRC’s National Symposium at the Georgetown University Law School in Washington, D.C. on June 1-2, 2009. Winners will be asked to share their essay with event participants.
March 20, 2009: Essays must be received in the CRC Essay E-mail Account by 12:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Any and all entries received after this date and time will not be judged.
Mid-Late April 2009: Essay contest winners will be announced.
June 1-2, 2009: National Symposium at the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC.
