GFWC - Raising Our Voices
Raising Our Voices
GFWC has pledged to gather 10,000 signatures for the National Domestic Violence Hotline's Million Voices to End Domestic Violence in America campaign.
So far, thousands of our members, friends, and coalition partners have joined their voices with ours, pledging to educate, inform, and raise awareness about domestic violence and the resources available to victims and survivors. And many more individuals volunteer independently at shelters, hotlines, and other service providers, and would be strong advocates for GFWC and for ending domestic violence.
One of the most powereful ways to help end domestic violence is to share GFWC's message of hope and commitment to raise awareness with women and girls who represent the future of GFWC's passion for service.
- Invite a local woman's shelter representative to speak at your recruitment event
- Encourage members and friends to bring toiletry articles to donate to the local woman's shelter.
- Review the guidelines presented in the GFWC President's Special Project: Domestic Violence Awareness as an illustration of the kinds of programs and program materials provided by membership in GFWC.
- Have all attendees at your recruitment event learn about and sign up with the Million Voices Campaign to End Domestic Violence in America.
- Build a recruitment event around cookie baking (OCTober is National Cookie Month) and donate cookies to the local woman's shelter.
- Encourage invitees to bring books for both adults and children to donate to a local woman's shelter, creating a mini-library for residents. Discuss GFWC's traditional support for libraries.
- Present the purple domestic violence bracelet to every attendee at your recruitment event.
- Provide attendees at your recruitment event with information from Cut It Out that they can share with their hair salons; discuss how GFWC works with multiple resource organizations to enhance club programs.
- Publicize recruitment events in your community as a domestic violence awareness programs; ask attendees to bring old cellphones to donate to local woman's shelter.
- Invite local Dress for Success representatives to speak at recruitment event; have attendees bring gently used professional clothing to donate.
By recruiting new volunteers who share GFWC's mission for community service, we can raise our voices to help end domestic violence in America.
