1904 — Clubwoman Alice Lakey (N.J.) initiates a letter—writing campaign to advocate for pure food legislation. Taking up Lakey's passion, GFWC promotes a nationwide outreach that leads to the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906.
