Awards

GFWC gives awards for outstanding achievements on an annual or biennial basis at its Annual Convention. Awards are given to clubs and State Federations to recognize their efforts in the program and partnership areas within each GFWC Community Service Program and Special Project. In addition to the GFWC Community Service Program and Special Project awards, GFWC also provides awards to recognize individual member accomplishments, club activities, and community improvement efforts

State Federation awards are based on membership category, which is determined by the number of individual dues-paying members in each state. Click here to view your state’s award category.

For details regarding each of these awards, including contact information for the national chairman, recommended award ideas, rules, deadlines, entry forms, and instructions on how to enter, please reference the appropriate section in the GFWC Club Manual.

GFWC Community Improvement Program Award

GFWC’s Community Improvement Program Award (formerly the Community Improvement Contest) aims to enhance the lives of GFWC’s neighbors around the world by meeting community specific needs, and elevating our clubs’ status within those communities. Our longest standing project, the Community Improvement Program Award is the heart and soul of GFWC. It provides a club with the opportunity to develop the leadership skills of its members, increase membership, and promote community awareness of the club’s activities. It aims to meet the needs of individual communities. The Community Improvement Program Award provides a vision for the future of the relationships between clubs and their communities. Click here to download the Community Improvement Program Award Entry Form.

GFWC Jennie Award

The GFWC Jennie Award honors one clubwoman from each GFWC Region for outstanding commitment to club, community, and family. They are chosen by their clubs to compete at state, region, and national levels for their outstanding personal commitment to club, community, and family.

The GFWC Jennie Award is named in honor of GFWC’s founder, Jane Cunningham Croly, who wrote for national newspapers under the pseudonym, “Jennie June.” The award highlights those extraordinary clubwomen who epitomize her spirit of independence, courage, and persistence in purpose through their roles as volunteers within their clubs, elsewhere in the community, and as members of a family or extended family. Although GFWC has many awards for states and clubs, the GFWC Jennie Award is the only national honor that recognizes individual members for personal excellence. In fact, it is the highest honor bestowed by GFWC.

The Charlotte Emerson Brown Award for Excellence in State Leadership

The Charlotte Emerson Brown Award for Excellence in State Leadership will recognize the exemplary service of State Presidents to their State Federations and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. GFWC will celebrate the 2012-2014 honorees during a special reception at the 123rd GFWC Annual Convention in Phoenix, Arizona, in June 2014. If multiple nominees meet the criteria, multiple awards will be presented. The purpose of the award is to recognize GFWC State Presidents who have demonstrated leadership and commitment that goes above and beyond basic expectations. Please see the Nomination Form for more details.

GFWC Coveted Shoe Award

The GFWC Coveted Shoe Award will recognize one club within each membership category at the 2014 GFWC Annual Convention. Applications must be submitted to State Membership Chairmen by the state federation's annual reporting deadline. Click here to access the application.

GFWC Special Project, Community Service Program, and Advancement Area Awards

There will be an Awards Program for states based on membership categories established at the beginning of each administration to recognize their efforts in supporting GFWC Special Projects, Community Service Programs, and Advancement Areas.

  • In accordance with the State Award Entry Cover Sheet guidelines, each State Federation may submit one entry for each of the two Special Projects, two for each of the six Community Service Programs (one for program projects and one for partnership projects), and one for each of the six Advancement Areas. Judging criteria will be based upon the community or club impact of the projects submitted. The Awards Program is optional.

  • In accordance with the Club Creativity Award Entry Cover Sheet guidelines, each State Federation may submit one club entry in each of the two Special Projects, two for each of the six Community Service Programs (one for program projects and one for partnership projects), and one for each of the six Advancement Areas. Judging criteria will be based upon the creativity of the projects submitted. Clubs will not submit entries. The Club Creativity Awards are optional.
