GFWC History Timeline : 1868-2009
1912 - President Taft appoints Chicago clubwoman Julia Lathrop as chief of the Children's Bureau. GFWC works with the bureau to promote public healthcare for mothers and infants. Her efforts result in the Sheppard-Towner Act of 1921, also known as the Maternity Act.

1915 - In the fall of 1915, the Children's Bureau partners with GFWC to promote National Baby Week, March 4-11, 1916.
