GFWC - A Million Voices Begin with 10,000 Clubwomen

A Million Voices Begin with 10,000 Clubwomen

Dear Friends,

At GFWC's 116th Annual International Convention in Philadelphia in June, I was honored to be the first person to join the National Domestic Violence Hotline's Million Voices Campaign to End Domestic Violence in America. In doing so, I promised on behalf of all GFWC members to use my voice to speak out against domestic violence, and to tell friends, family and co-workers about the National Domestic Violence Hotline as a source for help.

At the same time, GFWC clubwomen pledged to gather 10,000 signatures to help launch to Million Voices Campaign, prompting NDVH's Chief Executive Officer Sheryl Cates to comment that, "I don’t know of any organization with more passion, capacity, and ability to accomplish this mission than GFWC."

GFWC's passion for domestic violence awareness and prevention has been evident in the first full year of this President's Special Project, and clubs throughout the nation will observe October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month with projects reflecting the needs of their communities by offering services to shelters and domestic violence awareness to members and their associates.

We will highlight some of these projects during this month of awareness, along with additional opportunities to contribute to domestic violence awareness and resources for current and new projects.

On Tuesday, October 9, GFWC will host a reception at Headquarters to celebrate our partnership with the National Domestic Violence Hotline's Million Voices Campaign and to honor NDVH, the National Network to End Domestic Violence, and Chico's, with whom GFWC is partnering on Wardrobe Parties benefitting domestic violence shelters around the country. I hope each of you will join us from 4–7 p.m. for this gathering of many individuals and organizations that share the same passion for ending domestic violence. RSVP by e-mail or call 202/347-3168 by Friday, October 5, 2007. We look forward to announcing the results of our pledge to gather 10,000 names for the Million Voices Campaign at this event.

Please remember visit our website often this month to read about GFWC's work, achievements, and commitment to this important cause. I hope you will send us your own project ideas and observance activities, as well.

Together, we can create powerful change by empowering women, one-by-one.

In Federation Service,

Jacquelyn Pierce
GFWC International President
