GFWC - Empowering Women One-by-One Program
Empowering Women One-by-One Program
GFWC is committed to motivating and and educating our members to become empowered, and to engage in activities that help boost their self esteem and self image. Clubs are encouraged to create projects that not only empower their members, but enable members to empower other women in their communities, states, and regions.
TAKING STEPS TOWARDS EMPOWERMENT
Empowered women go beyond the norm, beyond the traditional way of doing things and are motivated to move forward with the least amount of difficulty.
Here are some suggestions to assist clubs in participating in the Empowering Women Program:
- Devote time at club meetings for discussion on empowerment and
how it pertains to each member.
- Encourage club members to become empowered in the areas of health, domestic abuse, economic independence, and others. Use the programs found in the GFWC Club Manual to assist.
- Host an event for the empowered women (business owners/executives and government officials) in your community. Invite one or more of them to speak to a public audience.
- Invite a self-image speaker to do a presentation at a club meeting.
- Make a list of empowered women from your community to be a resource for club activities. Recruit them to join the club.
- Advocate for legislation that promotes women’s safety and equity. Consult GFWC Resolutions Book for ideas.
- Develop a media awareness campaign focusing on how women are portrayed in the local media.
- Encourage club members to take a public speaking class.
- Attend a communication skills/leadership course.
- Give an “Empowered Woman” scholarship to a club member or
community member to return to school.
- Provide books about the empowerment of women to a local library.
