The Jane Cunningham Croly Award for Excellence in Journalism Covering Issues of Concern to Women recognizes journalists whose writing best captures the courage, vision, and spirit of Jane Cunningham Croly, a pioneering journalist who devoted her life to helping women improve their lives and expand their rights.
The Croly Award will be presented in June 2008 at GFWC’s 117th Annual International Convention in Chicago, Illinois. Award winners receive a $1,000 cash award and airfare/expenses to Chicago.
The contest is open to women and men who write for newspapers, magazines, news services, or online publications, either on staff or in a freelance capacity.
A judging panel of prominent journalists, editors, and leaders of national women’s organizations will review entries to select an overall winner whose writing demonstrates a concern for the rights and the advancement of women in our society; an awareness of women’s sensitivity, strength, and courage; and/or an attempt to counteract existing sexism.
Entries must be postmarked by March 31, 2008, and submitted along with an entry fee of $50.
