GFWC - Training Programs

Training Programs

GFWC offers a number of training programs and materials to assist our members in developing their leadership skills, planning club meetings and conferences, publicizing their community service efforts, and working with other clubs to create more powerful programs.

» Leadership Education and Development Seminar (LEADS) identifies, encourages, and trains potential leaders at the GFWC grassroots (club) level. State federations select one participant each year to attend the one-day seminar, held prior to the opening of the GFWC Annual International Convention. Participation in LEADS provides members with the capabilities, confidence, and commitment to pursue and achieve higher office in GFWC and serve with distinction.

The LEADS Information Kit may be ordered directly from the GFWC Membership Department at no cost. The kit includes an overview of the LEADS program, an application form for state applicants, and the Participant Profile to send to GFWC Headquarters.

» Incoming Leader Training Seminar (ILTS) began in 2006, and was targeted toward incoming officers for the 2008-2010 GFWC administration—region presidents, state presidents and state Junior Directors. The group met for a one-day session to shape the foundation upon which their administrations will be built. Members of the GFWC Board of Directors and GFWC staff discussed the resources, information, and materials available to officers. Presentations on speech writing, how to get organized, and conflict resolution rounded out the program.

A second session of ILTS was held in June 2007 in conjunction with the GFWC Annual International Convention. Presentations on parliamentary procedure, public relations, and GFWC publications gave 2008-2010 leaders an additional understanding and appreciation of the assistance available to them as they plan their administrations.

» 2008-2010 Orientation Meeting training will takes place in November of odd-numbered years, when region presidents-elect, state presidents-elect, and state directors-elect of Junior clubs, along with appointed members of the next administration committees, meet for a weekend of information, education, and inspiration.

» GFWC workshops at the Annual International Conventions, region conferences, state federation conventions, and district meetings offer opportunities for training and skills development. Workshops focus on providing techniques and knowledge to assist members in facing challenges in their clubs, communities, careers, and lives.
