GFWC/Iowa Takes Their State Capitol by Storm!

In celebration of Federation Day and Volunteers in Action Week, GWFC/Iowa sponsored an event for Domestic Violence Awareness at their State Convention held April 27th-29th in Des Moines, Iowa. On Saturday April 28, clubwomen headed to the state capitol building and took legislators by storm. Purple T-Shirts were made with the GFWC Logo on the front and "GFWC CARES" on the back. Signs were carried to advocate for Iowa legislatures to "Increase Funding for the Domestic Violence Shelters" and to finalize their bill "No guns for abusers." Approximately 25 clubwomen rallied early Saturday morning before the opening of convention. Pins were worn that said "Run/Walk for your Life with GFWC." The Iowa legislative session was to have ended by the time of the convention Saturday, however the final legislative session went beyond midnight the night before. This meant legislators came back that morning to finalize their business. The clubwomen took the walk into the Capitol, through security, and up to the house and senate chambers. Signs were not allowed inside the chambers, but some members left messages for their legislators. It was a memorable morning, knowing we can be a part of our legislative system and seeing it in action.
