Year:
1930 — GFWC adoptes the Penny Art Fund, originated by Nellie Wright Allen (N.J.). State Federations collect one cent per member, and used the funds to purchase works by state artists, mount traveling exhibits, recognize clubs that best promoted art with awards, and provide art scholarships. The program continues to support local and regional American art until it is discontinued in the 1970s.
