Canine Companions Puppy Sims Meets Her Namesake

November 12, 2021

Sims, a female yellow Labrador named in honor of 2020-2022 International President Marian Simmons-St.Clair, visited GFWC Headquarters today. Sims will continue to learn more than 30 obedience commands from Bryna Brennan, a puppy raiser with GFWC Affiliate Organization Canine Companions over the next many months until she is ready for her forever home. She will hopefully be a service dog to enhance the independence of a person with disabilities.

And Sims is already well on her way and showed off some of the commands that she has learned to President St.Clair thus far.

Many other puppies like Sims are on their way to become a life-changing service dog for a person with a disability. Canine Companions service dogs are matched at no cost to recipients—adults, children, and veterans with disabilities—after an intensive two-week training class culminating in a joyous graduation ceremony that is open to the public.
