Read for the Record
September 25, 2017
Pat Zimmerman, President of GFWC Iowa Solon Women’s Club, has participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record campaign for the past ten years, reading to children in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade to inspire an early love of books.
She likes to print out participation certificates with her witness signature at the bottom so the children can celebrate their contribution to the effort to set a new world reading record, which Jumpstart first broke in 2013.
Pat knows literacy and reading are important causes to GFWC clubwomen, so she encourages them to register to read in classrooms in their communities. This year’s event is on October 19th. Click here to learn more and register: https://www.jstart.org/read-for-the-record/
Heidi is both a shining example and inspired advocate of the belief in meaningful volunteering.
Success For Survivors Scholarship
Each year, GFWC awards scholarships to help intimate partner abuse survivors obtain a post-secondary education that offers a chance to reshape their future by securing employment and gaining personal independence.
GFWC Ossoli Circle
GFWC Ossoli Circle, located in Knoxville Tennessee, was founded in 1885 as a literary society and is the oldest federated women’s club in the South. Its founder, Lizzie Crozier French, was a suffragist who was inspired to create the club after visiting the Sorosis Woman’s Club in 1868.
