GFWC Welcomed Two Fantastic Speakers at Its 2022-2024 Board Orientation
January 11, 2022
Last weekend at the historical Mayflower Hotel, White House Gender Policy Council Executive Director and GFWC’s 2021 Croly Award Winner spoke at the 2022-2024 Board Orientation.
Amy Brittain, the 2021 winner of GFWC’s Jane Cunningham Croly Award for Excellence in Journalism Covering Issues of Concern to Women, shared her rewarding professional journey as a reporter with The Washington Post’s investigative team that has led her to her work on Canary. Canary is a seven-part investigative podcast about two women who refused to stay silent about their experiences with sexual assault. Amy’s work shines a bright spotlight on the consequences that survivors may face when they report, calling attention to how difficult the decision to come forward can be for survivors.
Jennifer Klein, Co-Chair and the Executive Director of the White House Gender Policy Council, prepared a video presentation. Jennifer was previously the Chief Strategy and Policy Officer at TIME’S UP, which is focused on workforce issues for women. She has written and taught extensively about domestic and global gender policy, including as an Adjunct Professor at the Georgetown University Law Center. She worked with former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to develop No Ceilings, an initiative to evaluate progress for women and girls since the 1995 Beijing Conference on Women and to advance gender equality around the world.
From 2009 to 2012, Ms. Klein was a Deputy and Senior Advisor in the Office of Global Women’s Issues within the Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of State. From February 1993 through January 1999, she worked at The White House in a dual appointment as First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton’s senior domestic policy advisor and a Special Assistant to the President on the Domestic Policy Council.
