North Little Rock Woman’s Club
With the largest senior citizen apartment complex in the United States in their backyard, the GFWC North Little Rock Woman’s Club (Arkansas) is known for helping the elderly in their community. In addition to supporting senior citizens with fundraisers and an annual Christmas party, members are also advocates for education and domestic violence awareness and prevention.
“I joined because I wanted to be a more active member of my community,” said Dianne Hocut, the club’s president. “We certainly have a lot of involvement—it’s a very busy club!”
Whether holding a pajama drive for nursing homes and veterans shelters, donating dictionaries to every third grade student in the North Little Rock area, or providing $2,400 in scholarships each year, the club’s 53 members stay active. Members prepare all year for their biggest fundraiser, the Carousel Ball, a fun night with food and dancing now in its 27th year.
As president, Dianne hopes to recruit even more members by hosting membership teas. She is also emphasizing the connection the club has with GFWC and enjoys learning about how the district, state, and national levels of GFWC tie together.
“It’s not just the North Little Rock Woman’s Club. We are part of a big wheel. It’s been exciting to see what GFWC has to offer for everybody. That’s the exciting part,” Diane said.
She is also encouraging club members to use more technology such as email and social media in their volunteer work.
“We are a strong and connected woman’s club that have community service on our brains. That’s what we love to do,” Dianne said.

GFWC Millington Junior Women's Club
Each year April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Kathleen Sweeney, Executive Director/Forensic Interviewer of The Child Advocacy Center of Tuscola County (CACTC), spoke at GFWC Millington Junior Women's Club (Michigan) monthly meeting and told members that 10% of the 235 reported cases of child abuse in 2017 in Tuscola County were from Millington Township, including Millington. It inspired them to take action with the "Color Me Blue" Project.
